Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital’s (LHCH) public photography competition

Photo competition launched

I am writing to you in the hope that your photographic union, or some of your members, might be able to get involved and support Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital’s (LHCH) brand new public photography competition.

We are inviting local people, schools, businesses, students as well as staff, patients and other visitors, to showcase their creative talents in our photography competition throughout October and November 2014. I came across details of your society, and wondered whether you might be keen to take on board the challenge!

As you may be aware, LHCH is the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the country, with a reputation for clinical excellence in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology and respiratory medicine. We also offer some of the most highly specialised treatments in the UK for life threatening conditions of the heart and chest. We serve an adult population of over 2.6 million people across Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. This year, we were once again rated the top performing hospital in the country for ‘overall patient’ care – the 7th time in the past 8 years.

One of the key aims of this photography competition is to positively enhance our hospital environment for the future benefit of all.

Categories

Taking on board the challenge to ‘bring the outside in’, we are looking for entries in the following categories: ·

  • Nature: the best photos of landscapes, wildlife, beauty spots within our geographic areas (Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and Isle of Man). ·
  • Weather: the best photos of the power, diversity and reality of seasonal weather within our geographic areas (Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and Isle of Man). ·
  • Buildings: the best photos that focus on architecture and the creativity of human imagination in building design within our geographic areas (Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and Isle of Man).

There will also be a separate Young Persons category for children under 16years of age (as of November 30th 2014). Images submitted for this category should portray one of the above themes.

Prize

Shortlisted photographs will be printed on canvas and displayed in the hospital for a period of two years, and at the end of this period, photographs will be returned to the copyright holder. One overall competition winner will be presented with a digital camera.

How to enter

Entrants should email a high resolution (between 3-10MB file size) photograph in JPEG or TIF format, to corporatecommunications@lhch.nhs.uk or post via disc. A brief description of the photograph should be included, along with the corresponding category, and individual contact details. Photographs must be received by midnight Sunday 30th November 2014.

Further details

Full details about the competition are available on our website. Thank you for your time and we hope that you will be able to get involved. We look forward to displaying some work of your society members in the coming months.
