L&CPU DELEGATES MEETING/AWARDS PRESENTATION/ ANNUAL EXHIBITION OPENING
The venue for the L&CPU Annual Exhibition in 2011 is Astley Hall and the adjoining Cafe Ambio. The exhibition is open until 29th August.
The Delegates Meeting and Award Presentations took place nearby on Saturday 18th June.
The presentations were made by our President Christine Widdall EFIAP DPAGB BPE3*.
All the shots are by John Smith APAGB CPAGB , our Communications Officer. |
The new Cafe Ambio is housing about half of the prints. Open every day, you can enjoy a cup of their excellent coffee after perousing your prints.
The Hall itself is only open at weekends though, so bear that in mind if you have far to travel.
Our Exhibition Secretary Tremaine Cornish and his assistants must be thanked for doing your remarkable work full justice in the way the exhibition is mounted. |

109 signed in on Saturday for the Delegates Meeting at Astley Hall. They heard our President, Christine Widdall pay tribute to Margaret Sixsmith in joining the elite 13 who hold FBPE and lead the applause for those who have just attained AFIAP and EFIAP (see NEWS).
Other headlines • Audrey Marsh & Dave Bibby elected to Roll of Honour • Club subscriptions remain the same for 2012. PAGB expenses for Lecturers and Judges 30p PLUS FUEL per mile from September • For the 2012 Annuals only prints mounted 40cm x 50cm will be accepted (it looks as if the continuation of a mono section in the PDIs is in question too) • 3 Print Folios only and no commentaries.
The presentation of awards followed and photos of many can be seen below; winners Roy Rimmer and Gwen Charnock (Wigan 10), Ian Wells (Preston), Stephen Ellis (Davyhulme), Colin Balls (AV Winner) and Sophie Chalkey (Chapel, Young Photographer) were there to receive their awards. Roy Rimmer of Wigan 10 also made getting mauled by German Retrievers worthwhile by gaining Photographer of the Year for the third time. The success of North Cheshire PS was notable as Jon Allanson made frequent trips to receive awards for them while Wigan 10’s successes presented Phil & Gwen Charnock with a major transport problem (all the Annual trophies).

The awards commenced with the election of two people to the Roll Of Honour which was created in 1981 on the 75th anniversary of the L&CPU. It marks outstanding service to club photography in the region.
Popular judge and lecturer David Bibby AFIAP BPE3* was only 27 when he and Graham Schofield gave lectures together and David paid tribute to his late friend and mentor in his acceptance speech.
Audrey Marsh was also elected and will be given her award later. Audrey was chosen for the wonderful support she gave to husband David Marsh in his long career with the Union

On the left are Tony Collier AFIAP (Poulton-le-Fylde) and Jon Allanson (North Cheshire PS) collecting their clubs' joint wins in the Print Challenge.The top two clubs in each event select our representatives in the PAGB Championships in July (PDIs) and in October (Prints).Wigan 10 will also take part since the top 8 clubs do so automatically and last year they gained second and fourth places respectively.

North Cheshire had a very good year and Jon Allanson made repeated trips to the front to collect their various awards;
